Artists Statement
Mary Ann Stafford has always enjoyed painting the landscape and resources of
Arkansas. She is intrigued by light and shadow, contrast, and shape. Her need
to create has resulted in expressive pastel landscapes, but she loves to explore
other media as well.
Retired from education in 1993, she still teaches art at the Arkansas Arts Center
and other venues. Her doctorate is in Secondary Education with an art emphasis.
Other art training is from the Kansas City Art Institute, the University of Arkansas,
and workshops from nationally recognized artists. She has studied with Richard
McKinley, Maggie Price, Kitty Wallis, Doug Dawson, and Alan Flattman among
others.
Dr. Stafford is a signature member of Mid-Southern Watercolorists and the Pastel
Society of the Southwest. Her paintings are in private collections throughout
the US.
